I’m currently building a remote-controlled toy car that has a built-in camera, and I thought it would be cool to get an XR device that could display the camera feed in real time. However, I really don’t want to spend a ton of money, so I’m looking for something in the 200-300€ range. It should also be relatively easy to use with custom apps. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
You probably want something built for drone FPV. It’s a bit different, but the hardware is almost the same. You might find something within your budget there.
The thing is, most FPV drones use analog video to save weight on the drone. So you could use that, but it wouldn’t look good unless you invest in expensive digital goggles.
Honestly, if you’re mainly focused on the camera feed, you might also consider using a smartphone or tablet as a display. There are apps that can stream the feed to those devices, and it could save you money.
Make sure to think about the range as well. Some cheaper options might have a limited range for the camera feed. If you’re planning to race the car a good distance, you might want something that can handle that.
If you’re okay with a little DIY, you could also look into making your own headset using a cheap VR kit and adapting it for your camera feed. Might be a fun project.
