I’m looking for a tool that helps create a straightforward AR experience. It needs to be simple and accessible—just scan with your camera and view the content, maybe with a link to a website. I want to avoid asking people to download apps or install software since that seems like a hassle. Ideally, the AR element will be integrated into a performance to add some fun.
Hi, I’m also looking for similar solutions. My light research led me to WebAR. There are platforms like 8th Wall and MyWebAR that offer this. They let users scan an image or QR code to open the browser for the AR experience. Just keep in mind your 3D model or AR experience shouldn’t be too large—300MB is about the limit, but 100MB is recommended for better performance. I’d suggest looking into those and similar platforms.
Thanks! Will look further into these suggestions.
MindAR might be worth a look for you. It’s easy for simple projects and has great documentation. Plus, it’s free and open-source. Niantic/8thWall has a web-based Studio for easier development—it’s free to demo, but costs $100 USD/month for real campaigns.
Thanks for the suggestion! Does ‘free to demo’ mean I can’t share it with others?
It just means the loading page will be branded with 8thWall, and they might go after you for any commercial use.
Niantic Studio, Blippar, Bezi, and PlayCanvas all have simple QR code features. Niantic Studio is new and has limitations but looks promising. Blippar offers an interesting visual coding tool. PlayCanvas is older but good, though it requires JavaScript programming for substantial projects. I haven’t explored Bezi yet, but developers recommended it.
Thanks a lot! This is super helpful :))
