Traditional game developers are still sceptical about the VR market

So apparently, a recent survey asked a bunch of game devs about the VR market and the results are pretty mixed. Over half of them think the VR market is stagnant or even declining, and most aren’t planning to jump into VR development any time soon. They also don’t think the Apple Vision Pro is gonna change much for VR games. Kinda surprising, right? Thoughts?

I don’t get why they expected the Vision Pro to impact VR gaming. It’s more of a media device than anything. What we really need is Meta to release a high-quality standalone VR headset to push the market forward.

Exactly! Vision Pro isn’t really focused on gaming, it’s more about productivity and media. For gaming, it’s gotta be something like the Quest or PSVR.

People were hoping that Apple’s entry into XR would somehow boost the whole VR market by bringing more customers and devs. I mean, Apple’s influence is massive, but yeah, so far it hasn’t really done much for VR gaming specifically.

Yeah, it’s weird that they expected Apple to boost gaming. Apple’s not exactly known for making gaming a priority, even on their iPhones and Macs. Why would Vision Pro be different?

It’s true that a lot of devs don’t want to jump into VR because the market’s small, but the growth potential is there. I mean, VR’s growing around 45% per year. In a few years, almost every family might have a VR/XR device.

Yeah, but will they use it for gaming or just for work and media consumption? I feel like it’s still mostly a niche for gamers.

Developers seem stuck in their ways and don’t want to adapt to VR. It’s like when mobile gaming first came out. People didn’t want to touch it, and now look where we are.

Totally, it’s always the same when new tech comes out. Devs don’t want to risk it, but eventually, they’ll have to adapt or miss out.

Honestly, VR gaming won’t take off unless we get more AAA titles like Half-Life: Alyx. The indie scene is cool and all, but we need bigger devs to push the boundaries.

Yeah, totally agree. We need more big-budget VR games to get people really invested in the platform.
