Tim Cook, who used to call himself AR’s biggest fan, is now gone. Apple is pushing the term “spatial computing” and has set rules that apps in their store can not be called VR or AR, only “spatial computing.”
Will this change things? Do you think people will start calling immersive technologies “spatial computing” instead of VR or AR?
Meta and other companies probably won’t go along with this, as they are heavily invested in the Metaverse and VR/AR. They likely won’t follow Apple’s lead, but some might.

hi buddy from my point of view, spatial computing refers to the fusion of the physical and digital realms, encompassing technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).
I saw this about Apple ditching VR/AR for “spatial computing.” It’s all a bit confusing, right? Like, Tim Cook used to be all about AR, and now they’re pushing this new term. They even want app makers to use it! I dunno if everyone will jump on board, though. VR and AR are already out there, and companies like Meta have a lot invested in that whole Metaverse thing. They’re not likely to switch terms overnight.
Maybe it’ll be like when everyone called flip phones “clamshells” for a while. It stuck for a bit, but then everyone went back to “flip phone.” Or maybe “spatial computing” will catch on. Who knows? One thing’s for sure, though: new tech can be a confusing mess of terms sometimes!
When you try it, you’ll notice the difference. Spatial computing is what Apple means. They’ve been doing AR/VR since ARKit came out in 2017. It is a computer. It always has AR on.
