So, Google I/O 2024 is over, and not a single word about AR, VR, or XR has been made

Google has talked about Gemini exclusively, as expected. They didn’t display a single live demo, in contrast to OpenAI, and their Astra movie was incredibly phony. ‘Pregenerated’ has also been applied to the other videos they displayed.

If they truly had an XR gadget, you would expect they would demonstrate it to work with Astra, as it would be more logical and smooth considering the form factor. Not to add that everything they discussed is only possible within nebulous timeframes such as “this year,” “soon,” and “someday.” They showed off tools and use cases that would be logically helpful exclusively to middle managers.

What were your thoughts on it, guys?

It seems to me that Google is closely monitoring its competitors and is overwhelmed by the rapid pace of change. They’ve become somewhat complacent in their position as the leader in search and overly cautious about taking risks.

One hypothesis suggests that following the launch of Meta HorizonOS, Google has lost several crucial partners, placing the entire Android XR ecosystem at risk.
