Quest 3 (V72 + VD) vs PSVR2: A comparison from someone who has both

I won’t be covering the pros and cons of each; you should already know what they are. Instead, I’ll cover the actual usage of the device and how it affects experience. The colors on the PSVR2 are better, but it’s severely hampered by the mura. At 450mbps via VD and a proper Wi-Fi setup, I noticed only slight compression in edge cases (like Assetto Corsa). Honestly, I’d take a little bit of compression any day over the mura on the PSVR2. Virtual Desktop also gives you access to spatial upscaling and sharpening to increase detail even further. The FOV on the PSVR2 is wider, and the fresnel lenses are very good compared to others I’ve tried (like Quest 2 and Index). Once you hit the sweet spot, the clarity is surprisingly close to the Quest 3. One of the biggest advantages of the PSVR2 is the OLED blacks, but with the new Content Adaptive Brightness Control feature on the Quest 3, I feel it’s less of an advantage now. Latency-wise, the Quest 3 has seen improvements with a recent update that decreased decoding latency by 30%. The controller tracking is better on the Quest 3, and switching between both HMDs shows the Quest 3 as far higher resolution and clearer. For VRchat users, the finger tracking on the Quest 3 is a big plus. Overall, the Quest 3 just keeps getting better with updates. If you’re on the fence, I’d recommend the Quest 3 with a decent 6E router for the best experience. This is my second PSVR2. I returned my first due to the mura, and sadly, the new one isn’t any better. The clarity and experience in the Quest 3 simply outshine it.

Thanks for the detailed comparison! I’ve been considering both, and it sounds like the Quest 3 is the way to go.

Yeah, I agree! The updates and improvements really make a difference.

What do you mean by mura? I’ve seen that term thrown around a lot.

Mura refers to the uneven brightness or discoloration you can see on the display. It can really affect the visual experience.

I’ve had issues with tracking on the PSVR2 too. Glad to hear the Quest 3 is better in that regard!

Yeah, the Quest 3 has been solid for me with tracking. No complaints!

Does the Content Adaptive Brightness Control really make a difference? I’m curious about that feature.

Definitely! It helps improve black levels and contrast, especially in darker scenes.

Sounds like the Quest 3 is a solid investment! I might just go for it.

You won’t regret it! The experience just keeps getting better with updates.
