Curious if anyone knows what kind of electronics are being used inside Meta’s AR glasses for the computing side of things? I’m wondering if they’re using something specific or just general mobile hardware.
From what I know, they’re using a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 or something similar, not the XR2. It’s basically a 5G mobile phone platform chip, but tailored for AR.
Interesting! I thought it might be more like a traditional mobile chip, but AR2 makes sense for glasses. Thanks for the insight!
Yeah, the AR2 was made specifically for devices like AR glasses. It’s designed to work as a co-processor for mobile phones to handle the heavier tasks. One downside might be battery size and heat management—it’s still not fully standalone tech, I think.
That makes a lot of sense. So it handles some of the computing, but offloads the heavier stuff to a phone? I guess that helps with battery life but still limits some functionality.
