I’ve been doing some research on AR projectors or displays that work by projecting ‘onto’ lenses, not into them. I’m not a fan of the bulky ‘bird bath’ design that makes the front of the glasses stick out. I’m looking for something sleeker like the old North Focals or ActiveLook tech. Anyone have suggestions for manufacturers making these kinds of displays or projectors?
I think WaveOptics is one to check out. Their waveguide tech has been used in a lot of sleek AR designs. You might want to dig into their products to see if it fits what you’re looking for.
Thanks for that! I’ve heard a bit about WaveOptics, but didn’t realize they focused on more compact designs. I’ll definitely look into them.
You might also want to check out Lumus. They have been developing really sleek displays for AR glasses. They use waveguide technology, too, which might be what you’re looking for to avoid the bulky look.
Lumus? That’s a new one for me. I’ll give them a look. Appreciate the suggestion!
You should take a look at DigiLens. They focus on projecting onto lenses without making them bulky. They’re pushing some pretty interesting designs.
DigiLens sounds like what I’ve been looking for. It’s so hard to find companies that don’t compromise on size for functionality. Thanks!
Also consider Vuzix. Their AR glasses don’t have that bird bath design, and they’re constantly refining the projection systems to be more compact. Might fit the bill if you’re looking for something less bulky.
Oh yeah, I’ve seen Vuzix around but didn’t know they had projection systems that slimmed down the design. I’ll check out their latest models!
I’d recommend taking a closer look at the link you shared from TDK. Their retinal projection is pretty sleek and doesn’t add much bulk to the front of the glasses. Could be a good option depending on what you’re going for.
Yeah, I saw TDK’s demo and it does look promising. Still waiting to see if they’ll have a full product rollout soon, though.
