My first VR headset was the Quest 3. After a year of reading all the hype about OLED (mainly about PSVR2) and my own experience with the Quest 3, I really want a headset with a wide FOV and vibrant colors, especially now that the Pimax Crystal Super is coming out. I’ve read that aspheric lenses have barrel distortion (pupil swim?). Ignoring the problematic lenses, how do they actually look in practice?
I have the OG Crystal, and barrel distortion is pretty non-existent. The DP connection without compression really boosts visual clarity. It’s super clear to the edge. But the actual FOV is similar to Quest 3, so if you want a wide FOV, wait for the Super.
IMO, the clarity is amazing, and I don’t see barrel distortion. Yes, pancake lenses would be smaller, but for a PCVR headset, it’s pretty good! You can see chromatic aberrations outside the central view, but it’s not a big deal for me.
I hated them and I’m glad I didn’t sell my Quest 3 yet so I could go back to those.
