Hey everyone, I’ve been tasked with creating a proof of concept for an AR application tailored for surgical use. I’m looking into Hololens 2 and Magic Leap 2 since they seem to be the top contenders for the job. I definitely need 6DOF head tracking, and it looks like these two are pretty much ready to go. Just wanted to get some thoughts on which might be easier to work with from a development standpoint. I’m familiar with programming and Unity, so any insights would be super helpful.
Aren’t people saying both are kinda on the decline? If I were you, I’d consider the Apple Vision Pro or the Quest 3 since they have amazing passthrough AR capabilities.
I just wrapped up a project using Magic Leap, and honestly, we had a lot of challenges. Booting issues, needing to rollback updates… it was a bit of a headache. We’re considering Hololens as a backup if things don’t pan out.
Have you checked out the Epson Moverio BT-45CS? It’s tailored for surgical apps and has a lot of features, although I’m not sure about its 6DOF tracking.
Just a thought, but maybe try a trial period for both Hololens and Magic Leap? It could help you decide based on firsthand experience.
I mean, with your project focused on surgery, accuracy is key. So the more options you have to weigh against what you really need, the better.
