Google patents curved lightguide for smartglasses... what do you think?

So, I just came across this article about Google patenting a curved lightguide for smartglasses. It’s pretty interesting because the article mentions that a curved waveguide can perform better than a flat one. But, IDK how they plan to make it work efficiently and affordably. Anyone else read about this or have thoughts?

I didn’t read the patent super in depth, but yeah, it’s known that a properly made curved waveguide can be better than a flat one. The tricky part seems to be making it well and cheap. The patent looks like it’s also about using polarizers to reduce leakage, and the curved shape helps with that. But honestly, the curved waveguide itself isn’t exactly a new idea.

So, Google is working on computer glasses? Got it. That’s kinda cool, I guess.

Curved waveguides sound neat. But how does that even work? What’s the deal with polarizers?

Do you think this is gonna be a game changer for smartglasses? Or just another gimmick?

I wonder how this will stack up against other brands. Do you think Google can compete with the likes of Apple or Meta?
