I got a free HTC Vive Pro 2 full kit, but I don’t have a PC that can run it. What’s the cheapest setup I could do for light gaming and movies?
I can play most Quest ports and vanilla Skyrim on an RX480 and Ryzen 5500. You might say it’s not proper VR, but it’s tons of fun on a very low budget.
I’ve got a 3060 that can play most VR titles on low to medium graphics. I’d recommend looking into that card as it’s still one of the best value cards out there to my knowledge.
Depends how low you want to move those quality sliders due to its huge 2444x2448 resolution x 2 screens. 3000 series GPUs are a value right now as they are 2 generations old at this point. If you want decent quality sliders, go for a 3080 or 3090. If you don’t care about graphical quality, set it to low and go for a 3060 or 3070. But then a 2080 has more actual horsepower than a 3060, so if you really want to go cheap, that’s an option too.
You can get a prebuilt for $800. This should comfortably support it, but you’d want to buy more RAM to go with it.
Just gave this to an Index user for a Vive Pro 2. I would recommend it. It costs about $1K USD. If you have a bit more, I would get a 3080.
