Okay, so I managed to get Halo CE downloaded and running with the VR mod, and it’s honestly so cool. But I’m stuck on one part: the Chimera mod. The instructions say to copy strings.dll
into the game folder, but I don’t see that file anywhere. I’ve checked the GitHub page, and still no luck. What am I missing here? Any help?
Oh yeah, I had the same issue! Did you check the Releases section on the GitHub page? That’s where I found the download that worked for me.
Releases section? Is that like a separate tab on GitHub? I feel so lost lol.
Yeah, it’s usually on the right side of the page, or you can scroll down. Look for something like ‘Releases’ and grab the zip file there.
FYI, the ‘Releases’ tab is kinda like where they keep the finished versions of the files you need.
Pretty sure the strings.dll might not even be included anymore. Some mods update and skip older files. Did you try running it without it?
Wait, so I might not need it at all? That would explain why I couldn’t find it lol. I’ll test it out and see what happens.
Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that newer versions of Chimera don’t need strings.dll
. Just copy the loader files instead.
Have you double-checked the zip file you downloaded? Sometimes the strings.dll
might be hidden in a subfolder.
Good point, I’ll go back and look again. Didn’t think to check subfolders.
Not sure what all the fuss is about lol. Chimera’s instructions can be kinda confusing. Just ask on their GitHub Issues page, and the devs might help you out.
I’ll try that if nothing else works. Thanks for the tip!
FYI, the ‘Issues’ section is where people report bugs or ask questions. Super helpful for stuff like this.
Btw, did you extract the zip file before looking for strings.dll
? Sometimes people forget that step.
Lol, I actually didn’t extract it yet. I’ll do that now and see if it shows up.
Yeah, unzip it first! Files don’t show up right if you just open the zip without extracting.
