For facial interface, I’m looking for: anti-sweat, light blockage, comfort, and greatest FoV. For controllers: comfort and no signal blockage (I read that Kiwi grips block the signal). Please give me your recommendations.
I’m using the Globular Cluster F3 facial interface kit. I like it because it’s magnetically attached, allowing me to remove it when exercising for an open design with my halo strap. It also comes with 3 interfaces with different materials. I heard that it spaces your eyes too far from the headset and reduces your FOV, but I haven’t particularly noticed it myself though. For grips, I use these: Mayue Controller Grips for Meta/Oculus Quest 3,Cover with Non-Slip Texture and Adjustable Soft Straps, Compatibility with Official Charging Dock Battery: Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games.
The AMVR grips have worked really nicely. They’ve got an extra plastic piece that runs up to the edge of the faceplate and does an excellent job of keeping the silicone sleeve from stretching or slipping. For what it’s worth, I use the stock interface with a silicone cover with nose flaps.
How does the AMVR interface compete with the Kiwi controller grip?
The Kiwi design has a flap that covers the faceplate a little around the edges; I haven’t used it, but there have been complaints about that limiting tracking. Other than that, build quality appears similar.
Think of all the things you want in an interface and realize nothing is going to be the best at all of them. I’m happy with the AMVR interface for comfort, light blockage, and anti-fogging. However, PU (fake leather) isn’t going to be the most breathable, but they provide a silk lining alternative with the interface if that’s a huge concern. Personally, I would be more concerned with oil build-up, leading to clogged pores over time, when dealing with cloth or silk-based lining that can’t be as easily cleaned. YMMV.
Is there an interface that prevents oil build-up?
With PU, you can wipe with a damp cloth with mild soap to get rid of any oil build-up. Many of the cloth materials are machine washable too, but that requires running a load.
Interesting, because they were making it sound like the cloth one is the one meant for sweating and working out. So you can only wash the cloth one? Or the PU leather too?
Sounds like you get it. Think of cloth as great for breathability and absorbing sweat, at the cost of ease of use: you have to wash it like clothing. PU is super easy to clean but doesn’t absorb sweat. Neither is the perfect solution, so back to my original point: no interface will be the best at everything. Each has its strengths.
