AR glasses for individuals with tunnel vision and night blindness

Hi AR community! I have a severe visual impairment, with only about 5-10% of my visual field remaining, mostly concentrated at the center. Additionally, I experience night blindness due to my condition.

I’m reaching out here because I believe some of you may have insights into AR technology that could address my specific needs. Is there any AR glasses available that can project the camera’s entire field of vision onto a small area of the screen? This could potentially provide individuals with tunnel vision like me with a broader view of our surroundings.

I understand that having this feature constantly active could be challenging, but if it could be easily activated with a gesture or button for a brief moment, it could significantly improve my mobility. For instance, when crossing a road, I currently have to scan the road twice in each direction due to my limited vision. This hypothetical feature could simplify that process.

Moreover, it could be beneficial in low-light conditions, as I already use my phone’s camera as a night vision aid. Having a screen directly in front of my eyes with this night vision feature would be a significant upgrade.

So, my question is, does current AR technology have the capability to achieve this? I understand that it might require custom software to suit my needs, which could be challenging to develop. Are there any potential drawbacks or limitations that I should consider? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Users with tunnel vision may benefit from AR headsets with wide-angle views projected by a camera, but activation, low-light integration, viability, and limits must be taken into account. Possibly requiring custom software can provide difficulties. It would be helpful to know about the trade-offs and capabilities of current AR technology.

Making a wide field of view fit into a small space is hard because distant things are tough to see, and it messes up how both eyes judge depth. Night vision can work, though.
