So I just came across this thing about BOE and Toyota working on transparent AR displays that let users on either side see different digital elements. Sounds futuristic, right? Apparently, it uses some fancy liquid crystal tech and shows full-color stuff. IDK much about it, but it’s wild! Thoughts?
Wait, so both sides see different stuff? Like, one person sees directions and the other sees something else?
Yeah, exactly! The display can show different digital elements depending on the side you’re looking at. It’s in some research paper I saw.
What kind of tech makes that possible? Never heard of this before.
It’s called polymer stabilized liquid crystal waveguide tech. Super technical, but basically, it’s how the display achieves transparency and controls what’s shown.
Ahh, got it. That’s some next-level stuff. Thanks for explaining!
This would be cool for car windshields, especially for cab drivers. Imagine directions on one side and passenger info on the other.
Right? My car already has a projector on the windshield for basic stuff, like speed and signs. AR would take it up a notch!
Exactly. Plus, maybe real-time arrows for turns or even a trajectory guide while reversing. The possibilities are endless!
Do you know if this tech is patented yet?
Not 100% sure, but I’d bet it is. The research paper images look pretty advanced.
What paper? Can you link it?
Here’s the link: Research Paper. Check it out!
Man, I should’ve waited 5 years before buying my car. This tech sounds amazing.
Lol, I feel that. Hyundai’s doing something similar by 2027, so it’s coming!
What’s Hyundai doing exactly?
Hyundai Mobis is working on AR displays for cars too. They’ll probably integrate stuff like directions and road markers in the windshield.
Would adjustable tints on windows be a thing with this? Like, combine AR and sun protection?
That’d be awesome. Right now, it’s more about the AR overlays, but who knows? Future versions could totally include stuff like tints.
Yeah, like multi-use tech: AR for navigation and tinted for sunny days. Car tech is getting wild these days!
