Among Us VR is being renamed to Among Us 3D

I just found out that Among Us VR is being renamed to Among Us 3D, and it will now support flatscreen play on Steam as well as crossplay between PC and VR players. This seems like an interesting move for the game. I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on this change and if it might encourage more people to play. Are you excited about the crossplay feature or the title change, or do you think it doesn’t matter?

See, that’s the kind of move that games should be doing. Now I feel more like playing this thing.

It’s still the same game. Why does the title change entice you to play it more?

Not always in the mood to put the headset on to be honest. Still being able to play with friends that are is huge. More people playing is always good for business.

Phasmophobia is my most played VR game because I can play with all my friends who don’t have VR.

Payday 2 VR works the same way

And mine is No Man’s Sky. Same. I can play with my flat friends and play flatscreen myself when I feel like it. What’s not to like?

More players means a more stable and consistent player base. VR games struggle to maintain high multiplayer numbers usually, so adding back in flat screen gamers adds a ton of potential players to the pool.

Expands the player base away from squeakers.

Yeah really a huge mystery why games with crossplay and big player base are more likely to be enjoyed, what could be the reason I wonder???

Wooosh, it’s not the title change.

More people can play.

It’s not just the title, it’s flatscreen support.

I know it’s a better business move and for a multiplayer game like this a larger player base is needed. But personally, I am always just a little less interested in a game that’s VR supported, rather than VR only.

Really? Why? The Forest? No Man’s Sky? Phasmophobia?

Too bad it says the 3D versions are a separate platform from mobile game, so still split and/or iOS or PC/headsets.

It could be a bit complex to try to emulate the 2D version in 3D and vice versa, admittedly. Even just the different perspective changes the game significantly.

I wonder if this (VR games getting flat ports) will become a more common thing over the next few years.

Or the opposite, flat games getting VR ports, though that’s mostly from mods.

Payday 2 did it really well. Hitman 3 is on their third try and still not sticking the landing.
