About to pull the trigger on Quest3... should I do it?

I’m considering getting the Quest 3, and I just wanted to see if anyone has any advice. I’m not looking to spend much more than what a Quest 3 costs, but I’m curious if there’s something else coming out soon that I should wait for or if there are other options out there. I want to play FPS games and watch movies with a more immersive experience. Also, I have a gaming PC and laptop, so I could potentially connect those with a PCVR setup. Thanks for any insights.

Quest 3 is a great value. I don’t watch movies or play many games, but I really enjoy Contractors. The Quest 3 works great with PCVR too. I’m using it mostly with Adobe Substance 3D Modeler, Gravity Sketch, Quill, and ShapeLab.

I’m a Blender artist who can’t decide between ShapeLab and Substance Modeler for a VR solution. Any advice?

Just curious, what can you use a Quest or any VR headset for as a 3D modeler?

To me, Quest 3 is worth it just for YouTube and movies, which I do almost exclusively when I’m at the gym burning calories. I never exercised for 20-30 minutes over my ‘limit’ just because I wanted to finish watching something—it’s really that good.

I got a refurb on Amazon last week that literally came in a sealed box, pristine condition for £100 less than retail, and it is a big upgrade from my Quest 2. I say yes. It’s less front-heavy than the Quest 2, but you’ll still want a halo strap for longer sessions.

Go ahead, it’s a good one. There are and will be more better options, but they’re so much more expensive that for the average user, they’re not worth the price. You don’t need the 512 GB model if you’re going to be using mostly PCVR. Keep in mind that if you want the best experience, you need to spend some more money. Virtual Desktop costs $25, but it’s worth buying if you’re planning to use the headset with a PC. After I bought it, it immediately became the only way I connect my headset to my PC.

Is the Steam app not good enough or would you say Virtual Desktop is much better?

Nothing much good in the same category. There’s a Quest 4 on the horizon, but that’s maybe a couple of years away. There’s also maybe a new Valve headset being developed. But there’s no point waiting for any of that when we have no idea of release dates or even if they’re going to be released at all. The Quest 3 is the best option currently available, and you would be happy with it.

Nah, there doesn’t appear to be a viable alternative out within the next 12 months. If someone announces one tomorrow, sorry, but there’s no reason to think that. The next big thing is the upcoming AndroidXR headsets, but the first one that comes out by Samsung late this year won’t necessarily be something you want to buy.
