What's the Difference Between Artificial Reality and Virtual Reality?

I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been dabbling in tech stuff for a while and recently came across the terms “artificial reality” and “virtual reality.” A bit of background: I once used a VR headset for gaming and it was mind-blowing, but now I’m hearing about artificial reality and I’m curious. Can someone explain the difference between artificial reality and virtual reality? Are they the same thing, or is there something unique about each? Any insights or experiences you could share would be awesome.

Thanks in advance,

The thrill of the battle or games for kids are much greater because AR has the advantage of allowing you to be aware of your surroundings while playing.
When it comes to creating immersive games, VR is superior.

Since I mostly enjoy gaming, virtual reality appeals to me considerably more because it provides a far richer experience.

Although I think AR is cool, every application I’ve seen seems more like a problem in search of a solution.

Virtual Reality (VR): Substitutes the physical world entirely with an electronic one.
Augmented reality, or AR, modifies the physical world by including digital features.

Hello Tracy, I concur with you! By keeping us aware of our surroundings, augmented reality (AR) does add an interesting layer of engagement, which can make games more engaging for younger players. VR, on the other hand, provides a greater level of immersion, which is excellent for producing genuinely fascinating experiences. I appreciate you emphasizing the benefits of both technology!

I’ve explored both virtual and augmented realities and can clarify the difference. Virtual reality (VR) immerses you in a completely digital environment, like when I used a VR headset for gaming—it’s all about creating a simulated world you can interact with. On the other hand, “artificial reality” isn’t a standard term but can refer to various forms of simulated or enhanced realities, including augmented reality (AR), which overlays digital information onto the real world, or mixed reality (MR), which blends physical and digital worlds. In my experience, VR is all about full immersion, while AR and MR integrate digital elements into your existing surroundings. Exploring these technologies has shown me that each offers unique experiences and applications.
