Sony Doesn't Care About PSVR2, So Why Should We?

What? Capitalism is the reason we can buy headsets at all. Instead of a few elites having them, anyone can buy one now.

And we can wear them while the planet burns, because no one plans more than four years ahead. Great…

Shareholders only care about the next report, so execs do whatever keeps them happy in the short term. It’s a vicious cycle.

Was it really that promising? The lenses weren’t great, the games use too much reprojection, and the PS5 doesn’t have the power to handle it all. It feels like it was abandoned for a reason.

Foveated rendering makes a huge difference, though, like in No Man’s Sky.

OLED is great for HDR, but the lenses have issues with the sweet spot. And yeah, the PS5 could use more horsepower for better refresh rates.

Valve did the same thing with their VR.

What other hardware has Sony abandoned besides VR?

Vita and its TV spin-off.

Don’t forget PSP Go and Xperia Play.

Those were licensed products, not directly from Sony.

The Vita was around for almost a decade, though.

Seven years isn’t ‘almost a decade.’ And Sony pretty much gave up on it after a couple of years. They just made it cheaper to produce and let it fade away.

Sony has a long history of abandoning hardware. It goes back further than most people on this forum have been alive.

PS Vita, PSTV, PSPGo, Wonderbook, EyeToy… Sony drops products fast if they don’t sell well within a few months.

The PS Vita lasted nearly a decade. The PSP Go didn’t sell well because it was digital-only. Sony usually gives things a fair chance unless the market rejects them immediately.
