Hey guys, I’ve been pretty out of the loop on VR for a while now. I was an early adopter of the tech, but after taking a couple-year break, I’m confused about how the VR industry is actually doing. There seems to be a ton of conflicting opinions floating around. On one hand, I see headlines advertising 2025 as the year VR takes off, and on the other hand, I’ve heard about things like Windows 11 dropping mixed reality. I live in Canada, and I noticed some weird trends at local stores. Like, Bestbuy has a whole section for the Quest 3 and even meta employees around to help explain things; meanwhile, Canada Computers has seemingly dropped all things VR, with employees telling me there wasn’t enough interest. So, was it fun but ultimately a niche hobby, or does it have potential for massive growth ahead? I’d love to hear what others think about it.
I feel like VR is still in that ‘cool but niche’ phase. It’s fun and all, but I wonder how many people are really buying headsets.
I’ve been a big fan of the Quest line, but with mixed reality stuff dropping, I wonder if we’re just going to stick to gaming. What do you think?
I wonder about the technical side too… like why did Windows drop mixed reality? Is that a bad sign for developers?
I think we might see a sleeper popularity explosion. Everyone’s waiting for the next big thing and I feel it could pop off soon.
