I know smartphone VR isn’t really what people do around here. That said, maybe you can point me in the right direction.
I’m looking for an app that will split my smartphone’s normal display in two, so when I put on the headset and slide in the phone, I see my normal landscape phone in front of me like a big screen. Just like it would look if I had my phone in my hands, but bigger.
I know the resolution won’t be great, but for retro emulator gaming and movies on long trips, it’ll do fine. Anyone know of something like this?
It’s been asked a few times before here, but I have never heard of any decent solutions for this, if you want the functionality to be general-purpose.
For movies, any VR media player can play regular movie files on a virtual screen. Don’t know of anything that can work alongside other apps to bring them into VR as a floating screen.
There used to be an app called ‘VRidge’ for streaming PC content to your phone in VR, but I don’t think it works for splitting the phone’s own screen. For emulator gaming, you might need a VR-specific emulator or workaround.
For movies, I recommend apps like ‘Skybox VR’ or ‘CineVR’. They’re great for playing video files on a virtual screen. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across anything for other apps in VR yet.
