I currently own a PSVR and I’ll be buying a Quest 3S soon. I’m curious about the lenses—I’ve heard that Oculus/Meta has the best Fresnels, but I’m not too familiar with the pros and cons of the PSVR’s aspherical lenses compared to Fresnel ones. I know the Quest has a higher resolution display and is less prone to SDE, but how do the lenses stack up?
I’ve tried the Quest 2, and I’d guess the Quest 3S is similar. From my experience, the aspherical lenses on the PSVR were better. I tested them on a black background with bright objects and saw almost no glare.
That’s good to know! I always worry about glare. Did you notice any difference in clarity?
I haven’t tried the Quest 3S yet, but I did use a Quest 2. Personally, I think the PSVR lenses are better. The main advantage of Fresnel lenses is that they’re smaller and usually cheaper to make.
Yeah, that makes sense. But do you think the clarity is noticeably different?
I’d say yes! Fresnel lenses can sometimes struggle with edge clarity, but I guess it depends on the headset.
I’ve heard mixed reviews about Fresnel lenses. Some say they can cause more distortion, while others love the lightweight design. What have you guys experienced?
That’s interesting! I’m really hoping for a good upgrade. Any tips on what to look out for when switching?
