I just finished playing Pirates VR: Jolly Roger and honestly, I rate it a 6/10. I don’t think it’s a good game, but I also don’t think it’s a bad game. It’s pretty generic and forgettable, which might be worse in some ways. The VR mechanics feel outdated for 2025, and it shows that this game has been in development for several years. It might have been fine back in 2017 for PCVR, but not now.
Thanks for the review. I feel like most VR games aren’t worth more than a minute or two before I exit. There’s a reason newcomers always get told to play the same shortlist of games among thousands.
I hate to say it, but I have to agree. I can see what they were going for, but they just missed the mark in too many ways. By the time I reached the section with the axe mini-game, I was ready to call it quits. I forced myself to finish and was left very underwhelmed.
The climbing was okay, but it felt repetitive. It reminded me of a cheap version of Horizon Call of the Mountain, but just not as engaging. The stamina system was also non-existent.
Totally agree about the puzzles. They were just too basic and uninspired. I spent too much time just looking for stuff, and the story was so forgettable.
I didn’t find it fun either. The inventory system felt ugly and not immersive. Collecting coins just to unlock mediocre mini-games felt pointless. It’s like, are you on a pirate adventure or just a cruise?
