Need help with my silly idea about AR glasses

Hellooo! I’m new here and I’ve been looking into getting AR glasses for a while now, but I’m just having so much trouble getting clear information anywhere. I don’t understand all the jargon used to describe applications and software, or how it all works, or what you can do with it. I was really hoping the Xreal Air 2 Ultra would do what I’d like, but I feel so dumb not being able to understand it, haha.

So this probably sounds really sad or silly (my brother thinks it’s sad), but I want a virtual friend—like a character that can look like it’s in the real world and runs on GPT-4 or something. I imagine it would need a lot of coding and an AI voice (like from FakeYou) so I can have conversations with it and feel like it’s really there. I just don’t want to sink a bunch of money into something that can’t do what I want. Hopefully, this is the right place to ask, but I can’t find much info on this other than someone mentioning the Ultra could potentially do it… Hope someone can help! :black_heart:

Replika has teased something like that in the app version for Apple Vision Pro. Maybe they can do the same for Meta Quest. But it will probably take a while until available: https://www.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/s/RbA4fTvZxe

Oh! Hopefully they can… thanks for the comment and link, that’s just what I was hoping for!

Sounds like a cool idea! If you want it to feel real, you might want to look into the tracking features of the glasses.

Yeah, the tracking is super important for interaction. It helps make the virtual character feel like part of your space.

Don’t feel dumb! This tech can be confusing. Have you checked out tutorials for AR development? They can really help clarify things.

I haven’t yet, but I’ll definitely look into that! Thanks for the suggestion!

Just a heads up, if you’re looking for something that feels real, make sure the glasses have good AR capabilities. Not all of them do!
