How Would You Describe VR to Someone Who Has Never Had a Headset?

Hi all, I have only ever used the headsets where you put in your phone, and I also had Google Cardboard back in the day, which made me feel nauseous. I’m planning to pick up a Quest 3 and would love to know how VR compares to my past experiences. How would you describe the VR experience to someone new, and what changes once the novelty wears off?

It feels like entering another world. Phone VR was decent, but it felt more like looking into a world than truly being in one.

Think of it this way: what’s scarier, a video of a snake or seeing one in real life? VR adds depth perception, making you feel like you’re actually inside the game.

The biggest difference is the immersion. With headsets like the Rift S or Quest 2, you get a much larger field of view and the ability to interact with the environment using motion controllers. Once the initial novelty wears off, the immersive experience keeps things interesting, but you may start to notice games that rely heavily on the ‘WOW’ factor rather than depth.

VR is nothing like Google Cardboard. It’s totally immersive, and you can walk around and interact with the environment like in real life. Just be aware of VR sickness; take it slow at first, and consider getting a better strap for comfort.
