I’ve played HL Alyx on various systems, but now that I have a beefy setup, the stuttering seems worse than ever. I want my Dad to enjoy the game without interruptions. I’m using a Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop, and it shows that the only MS spike is from the game itself. FPSVR suggests it might be a CPU frametime issue. Everything is low % usage, and the game is on an SSD. Here’s a video showing the stutter: Watch Half-Life- Alyx - 2024-12-09 20-22-31 | Streamable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I had the same issue a couple of years ago. I found some success by making sure the game isn’t minimized on your desktop, even if you alt-tab. No idea why, but it helped me a bit.
Tried that with no luck. When I minimize the game, it pauses/freezes. I added the -nowindow command, but I didn’t notice any improvement.
Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried other PCVR games through VD to see if they have the same problem?
Not a dumb question, but no issues in other VR games. I’ve been playing the new Behemoth game at max settings with no problems.
I had improvements with VR games by disabling Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling. I also found HL Alyx works better under Steam Link than VD.
HAGS is a major issue for sure. Always disable that.
Maybe try changing the graphics API? If you’re using Vulkan, switch to DX11 or vice-versa. I had a similar issue that went away when I changed mine.
I have the same issue with VD and Alyx. Disabling fpsVR and other plugins helped. Otherwise, Steam VR Link works fine for me in Alyx.
