Hey everyone! I’ve only worked on Apple products before, but I recently got a Microsoft computer and it’s just not working out for me. I have a client asking for AR projects, which is exciting but I need to switch computers. I’m trying to figure out if the iMac with 32GB RAM is enough for running Unreal Engine or Unity, or if I should go for the Mac Mini with 64GB. I really prefer the iMac for its colors and cordless look, but I’ll go with the Mini if I need the extra RAM.
What kind of AR experiences are you creating? A lot of AR stuff is pretty lightweight.
I’m not sure yet, but I’m guessing it might involve some detailed graphics. IDK, just trying to prepare!
Yeah, AR graphics tend to be simplified for a bunch of reasons. You probably don’t need the latest and greatest machine.
That’s good to hear! So you think 32GB should be okay?
I think so! Most people I know only max out RAM for really heavy graphics, which isn’t common in AR.
If you’re just starting with AR, 32GB should be fine. You can always upgrade later if needed!
I’d go for the iMac if you like it better. The experience matters too, not just specs!
True! I just want to make sure it can handle what I need it to do.
Have you checked the specs for the specific AR tools you plan to use? That might help narrow it down.
Not yet, but that’s a good idea. I’ll definitely do that!
