Hey, I’m looking into AR/XR glasses, mainly for watching videos and YouTube while doing chores. I’m talking about washing dishes, folding laundry, reading and writing things down, walking outside (during day and night) with my dog, and so on. They will be connected to my Galaxy S23. I get that the video is an overlay over my environment, but what is the visibility of both the video and the environment? Is it easy to switch focus from one to the other, so I could watch the video and do chores effectively? The glasses must have the option to show me a see-through video. For a secondary use, I’d like to use it for gaming on my ROG Ally, while not doing chores. I see that some glasses like the Viture Pro can darken the environment for that. Also, I don’t wanna game on a see-through video, so I need glasses that can switch from one and the other. What smart glasses would you recommend for these two uses?
Short answer is yes. I’ve used Xreal glasses connected to a Samsung phone in Dex mode to put a small video in my FOV during chore work. But I’ve only done it a few times because it’s frankly a cumbersome setup.
I also use the Xreal glasses, but I removed one of the displays to improve my view of the real world. It makes me look like a mad scientist and takes a little getting used to, but I generally use it at home when doing chores alone anyway.
You can do this with the Viture Pro and Neckband. The Viture has the ability to black out the environment or not. Battery life will be limited, like 2 hours I think.
Ok so yes, but there is a catch. Birdbath Smartglasses have a better field of view right now, but most lack spatial window viewing out of the box. You need an external device just to move the videos to the side of your view. The issue is that the lenses are so reflective that it’s hard to see your hands in front of you. Waveguide smartglasses are more expensive for the quality, so they generally have a smaller field of view.
Dex on my S22 Ultra with my Rokid Air or Viture Pro while hanging the washing is my most used use case. Works well.
With Xreal One, you can have a side view without needing any additional software or hardware. It’s the only glasses that has this feature without additional hardware or software.
