I’ve taken every precaution I know to avoid getting sick in VR, but this headset just kills me. Most headsets do, honestly. If I’m in it too long, my body heats up like a furnace and I get a splitting headache. When I take the headset off, my forehead is sweating profusely. My eyes don’t burn since I wear protective blue light glasses in the headset. Could that be causing my sickness too? I try to take breaks and drink lots of water, plus eat enough food. Today, I tried to play and didn’t last more than 10-20 minutes each time. After the second time, I felt extremely nauseous. Does anyone know what I can do to help? Is it something with the headset or my setup? My room isn’t hot either; it’s freezing, so I don’t understand why I sweat so much.
Motion sickness can be tough. Some people need to train for it, and for a small group, even training won’t work. Some of those folks can’t even play 3D games on a flat screen, which is really sad.
I handle 3D games just fine, even fast-paced ones. I know I have motion sickness, but it’s more about my body feeling rocked. I only get sick if I’m hungry. I did okay for a couple of hours yesterday, but it felt worse today.
Here are some common tips that might help: 1.) Try not to use the joystick to turn; turn your body instead. Just be careful with your cables. I opted for full wireless when I got the chance after breaking a couple of Vive cables back in the day. 2.) Point a fan at your face. 3.) Consider using some anti-nausea medication. I’ve forgotten a lot of tips, but I got past the sickness with my Quest 1.
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely try these things.
What refresh rate does your headset run at?
I struggle with Half-Life on a flat screen, but it’s amazing in VR. I usually play it for about 20-30 minutes, and I’ve accepted that may be my limit. It’s a fun 30 minutes, though. I guess I just can’t do quick movements for too long, but that’s okay… it is what it is.
